The Housing Corporation has announced its investment programme for 2000-01, which will total more than£700m.

The allocations for housing associations by region are as follows:

London: £298,043,195

South East:£82,544,215

South West:£41,104,134

East Midlands £31,567,970

Eastern:£45,426,135

West Midlands: £46,170,916

Yorkshire and Humberside:£55,961,999

North East:£20,802,000

North West:£60,740,894

Merseyside:£22,537,695

The Newcastle Journal reports that the Housing Corporation's regional director for the north east, Nigel Armstrong, said: 'This programme has been carefully tuned to the needs of local communities, as well as meeting the strategic priorities of the region. We have paid particular attention to ... sustainability and long-term demand.'
