The Chartered Institute of Housing has praised the work of housing minister Sir George Young after his move to the Treasury in the latest Cabinet re-shuffle.

CIH chief executive Peter McGurk said: 'Sir George was a friend of housing and was genuinely interested in the subject, which made him a good minister.

'His door was always open to the profession, even if the Treasury's pocket was closed', he said.
