The city of Hull has launched a global campaign to enhance its image, following a year-long analysis by consultants, reports The Financial Times (p8).

Leaders are so fed up with the city's 'lousy image' that they are to embark on a 'two-decade image enhancement programme' to coincide with 700th anniversary of receiving a royal charter.

'Hull is perceived as being at the end of the line,' says Jonathan Levy, a member of Hull's CityVision project to promote the city. 'But it has a great history of pioneering and innovation.'

A CityVision taskforce leaves Hull today for Brooklyn, New York, to build trade links and to learn lessons. Brooklyn tackled its own image problems a decade ago.
