Unison branches in the Humberside area want an emergency panel to deal with a flood of appeals from county staff unhappy with reorganisation.

More than 250 Humberside CC staff transferring to unitary councils in April are appealing against their allocated destination. Many decisions have been deferred because the appeals mechanism cannot cope.

Unison wants a county-wide panel of representatives to hear appeals, rather than the present council-by-council arrangement.

Rob Battey, who is co-ordinating the amalgamation of Unison's six Humberside branches in April and organising the panel, said 'staff will be left hanging in the lurch until the last moment' unless appeals are speeded up. 'Morale has hit rock-bottom.'
