The Labour party executive is to launch an investigation involving two Hull councillors who signed cheques presented as payment for 18 party membership forms, the Yorkshire Post reports (p9).

Preliminary investigations by North Hull party officials, show that 17 of the forms had inaccurate dates of birth, three had incorrectly spelt names. Three of the applicants were unaware they were supposed to have tried to join the party or were not interested in doing so.

Hull housing committee chairman, John Black and Humberside CC councillor Steve Wilson signed the cheques on the applications which were rejected by the party. Both councillors say they knew applicants and had received reimbursements.
