Supporters of field sports are taking legal action to try to overturn hunting bans imposed on land owned by county councils, the Times reports (p10).

The paper highlights the increasing numbers of counties which have banned hunting since losing control from Conservatives to Liberal Democrats last April with Surrey and Oxford to vote next week.

The British Field Sports Society said yesterday it will challenge bans imposed by Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Leicestershire and Wiltshire, reports the Times. It says the society is particularly concerned about a motion passed by Hampshire which also prohibits the use of council premises for 'the promotion of hunting or coursing for sport'.
