ICL has established an autonomous local government division as part of the company's restructuring.

ICL announced last month that its local government and health UK sector was being incorporated into a new division called Industry Systems Europe (LGC, 20 January).

The move led the ICL local government users association to seek assurances that services would not diminish as the company moved to a larger European market.

In the latest move ICL will split the local government and health division into three autonomous businesses within Industry Systems Europe. ICL Medical Portfolio will serve the health market and CLASSICL will supply education systems.

Richard Masters, a former council officer, will move over from the medical business to head the 600-strong local government division.

David Hylands of the ICL local government user association said: 'I am delighted that ICL is strengthening its focus on local government in this way. It would appear to be a move forward for customer care.'
