For the first time in the UK the IDeA is bringing together three of America's most respected management speakers in a week of events. The IDeA, in partnership with Liverpool City Council and Lewisham LBC, is hosting a week of events with three leading US practitioners. Each with their own very distinctive style, the speakers will be sharing their practical experiences of leading change and improvement in the US.

John Nalbandian is a mayor who also teaches in the department of public administration at the University of Kansas, rated in 1988 by the US News and World report as the number one local government academic programme in the USA. Mel Usher, executive director, IDeA says: 'John Nalbandian is a unique find. A professor and mayor rolled into one. For me he was the star of the 1999 International City Managers Conference. Not to be missed by senior managers or councillors.'

Speaking on leadership will be Bob Spitzer, president of Gonzaga University, Oregon. His background in business, theology and physics gives him a unique insight into how leadership can be most effective in public institution. 'He is the most interesting and insightful speaker that I have heard on the issue of how to create common cause and progressive ethic in public institutions,' says Barry Quirk, chief executive, Lewisham LBC.

Dave Sullivan, mayor of Lewisham says of Lou Tice of The Pacific Institute: 'I urge you all to take this opportunity to hear Lou Tice. Whether you live to work or work to live, or both, this event has something to offer you.' Lou will speaking on change and improvement and how to put thinking into action. For the last 15 years Lou has had his own organisational and management development company in Seattle.

Paul Corrigan of the Office of Public Management will also be speaking at the events.

In Lewisham on Tuesday 22nd February the focus will be on the relationship between the council and its community. For details contact Mary Evans on 0181 314 7560.
