The Improvement & Development Agency has launched a new online guide to help councils set up communications strategies for crime reduction.

The Connecting with communities guide includes advice about how to fit strategies to different target groups and how to work with other organisations to reduce crime.

It lists examples such as Birmingham City Council's Safer City Campaign, where the authority worked with police and businesses on a publicity campaign that resulted in lower crime statistics.

-- The guide is available on the IDeA Knowledge website at www.idea.gov.uk/knowledge.
