Home secretary Charles Clarke has announced the second wave of police force mergers. Regional forces are to be created in East Anglia, the East Midlands, the South East and the Yorkshire and Humber regions.

A joint Association of Directors of Children's Services is to be created, bringing together all professionals working in new children's services departments.

An Association of Directors of Adult Services will also be created.

They will both replace the Association of Directors of Social Services and the Confederation of Children's Services Managers.
