The Guardian carries a story (p5) on yesterday's Ofted report which criticised vocational courses as 'variable and barely satisfactory'.

Education minister, John Patten swiftly responded by ordering the National Council for Vocational Qualifications to ensure only students 'with good prospects of success' were admitted to the courses - they must not be a 'soft option' he said.
