An investigation has been ordered into claims that Edinburgh DC illegally awarded £30m of repair work to its own Direct Labour Organisation.

An inquiry by the Scottish secretary Ian Lang will look at allegations of anti-competitive behaviour after complaints by city contractors about tendering procedures.

The council's housing convenor cllr Mary Mulligan last night strongly denied the claims. 'We are satisfied that the correct procedures were followed in awarding the contracts,' she said.
