Irish airports operator Aer Rianta is preparing to take a 40% stake and to invest, with NatWest Ventures, about £45m in Birmingham International Airport, reports the Financial Times (p6).

The group has emerged as the preferred future partner of the seven West Midland local authorities which own the airport, the paper says.

Equity ownership of the airport company will be rearranged, leaving the councils with 49% and Eurohub, which owns one terminus, with 11%.
