Controversial Labour councillor Liz Davies has won her libel action against three Islington LBC colleagues. Councillors Tal Michael, Phil Kelly and James Purnell acc- epted in the High Court this week that she had not 'heckled' or 'incited violence' at an education committee meeting in 1994.

The case arose from statements made by the three to the Labour national executive when it was considering Ms Davies' selection as a Parliamentary candidate.

An article in Tribune suggested the statements amounted to an allegation that she had incited violence at the meeting. Ms Davies's solicitor, John Kelly, said all three now accepted his client was entitled to attend and speak at the meeting.

'Although she objected to the proceedings at the education committee meeting, she did not heckle, nor did she incite violence on that or any other occasion,' he said.

The three apologised for giving any misleading impression and agreed to make a donation to Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn's re-election fund.
