Islington LBC has unveiled the education commission which it hopes will develop a strategy for turning around its failing education service.

Chaired by Birmingham City Council education director Professor Tim Brighouse, the commission's members are: Professor Geoff Whitty, dean of research at the Institute of Education; John Bangs, education head with the National Union of Teachers; school governors Julie Horton and Anne Brooks; former BP strategy head Paul Vaight; headteacher Usha Sahni; and Dick Coldwell, a member of the Confederation of British Industry's education and training committee.
