The June 1998 Joint Staffing Watch shows a total number of 235,682 full-time equivalent staff, compared with the June 1997 figure of 236,908.
The figures also show a decrease of around 612 full-time equivalent staff compared with March 1998. This latest quarterly change includes seasonal effects.
The new Joint Staffing Watch survey, released jointly by The Scottish Office and COSLA, began in 1996.
