Bridgend CBC leader Jeff Jones has painted a bleak picture of Labour politics in Wales after successfully seeing off an attempt by his local party to deselect him for next May's local elections.
Mr Jones this week won a re-run of a selection battle lost to a 78-year-old last November. The re-run was called after the Welsh Labour Party upheld his claim that the original decision was invalid for procedural reasons.
'It's been quite a bitter struggle,' Mr Jones said. 'I want to get on now with fighting the election.'
But Mr Jones said the Welsh Labour Party had a hard task ahead educating some of its members in political developments at the heart of the party.
'It wasn't about how I led Bridgend CBC, but because everyone knows I support Tony Blair and to pay me back for events of the 1980s,' he said, referring to his role in outing Militant.
