Kemp pushes for localism angle in Lib Dem contest

  • Comment
The Local Government Association's Liberal Democrat group leader has pledged to ensure localism features strongly as an issue in his party's leadership contest.

Richard Kemp made the promise after paying tribute to Sir Menzies Campbell who resigned as leader after the Lib Dem's slide in the opinion polls and amid continuing grumbles about his age and leadership abilities.

"The LGA group will not support any particular candidate but will provide a platform for all confirmed candidates to make clear their views on localism and other matters which affect councils and councillors," Cllr Kemp said.
