Bob Kerslake has been named as the new chief executive of Sheffield City Council.

He replaces Pamela Gordon, who will retire in May.

Mr Kerslake, currently chief executive at Hounslow LBC, said he was 'delighted and honoured' to accept the post and 'looked forward to working with council leader Mike Bower and tackling the key issues facing the council'.

He believed issues needing to be dealt with immediately were the budget and moves to link the council more closely with the community.

He said: 'There are tremendous opportunities for regeneration of the city centre in Sheffield and a strong drive to improve service quality for residents.'
