The Labour party's national executive committee will have a substantial say in picking the party's Scottish parliament candidates, reported Scotland on Sunday (p3).

A 20-member panel will contain five NEC members who will all have a vote in the selection process. Another five of the panel will not have a vote however, leaving the NEC with a third of the 15 votes.

The panel was criticised by the Scottish National Party, which claimed the move 'turned the principle of devoultion on its head', and that the voting plan was designed to continue Labour's 'right-wing middle-England agenda north of the border'.
