Leaders of the North of England Assembly met Labour front bench spokesman Doug Henderson in London yesterday to discuss the Assembly's plans.

Councillor John McCormack, the Assembly's chair, said before the meeting: 'The message we will be taking to London is that the North is ready to be first out of the blocks as soon as the regional government gun is fired.'
