Labour councillors have drawn up secret plans to scrap grammar schools despite their party's commitment to letting parents decide their future, the Observer reported (p2).

The paper says that Labour members in Tory-controlled Kent are drafting plans to start collecting the 50,000 parental signatures needed to trigger a ballot on a grammar school's future.
