Two prominent members of Strathclyde RC's Labour Group have been appointed to health quangos, reports The Scotsman (p4).

The row over political bias led to the establishment of an independent committee in Scotland, chaired by Edinburgh's Lord Provost, to select candidates.

All the recommendations made by the committee have been accepted by the Scottish secretary, Ian Lang.

Other former critics of quangos and trade unionists have also been appointed to various bodies.

The chairman of the Scottish Labour party, Jim Devine said

'The government has moved a small way because the situation was so embarassing.'
