The Labour party in Birmingham has dropped proposals for two new taxes from its local election manifesto.

The Birmingham Post (p1) reports that the party had intended to raise revenue by taxing hotel beds and company-owned parking spaces. A local Labour spokesman said that the dropping of the proposals showed that the party was responding to business opinion, which had been critical of the proposed taxes.
