The former mayor of March and Fenland DC leader, Chris Bennett, is to fight for the North East Cambridgeshire parliamentary seat at the next general election, reports BBC Cambridgeshire.

He will stand as the Labour Democratic Party candidate.

Mr Bennett has spent 16 years in Fenland politics. He is also a county councillor. He split from the Labour group earlier this year and formed the Labour Democratic Socialist Group on Fenland DC.

He will be challenging sitting Conservative MP Malcolm Moss.
