A decision to save a scenic valley from the M80 motorway plan may be overturned by a Labour government because party leaders want to reconsider the proposed route.

A route through the centre of Cumbernauld was chosen in February by the Scottish secretary Michael Forsyth.

But the Scotsman (p7) reports that the Kelvin Valley route, which was protested against by environmental campaigners, will be put back on the agenda by a Labour government. It is understood that civil servants do not regard the preference for the Cumbernauld route as a final decision.
