A critical report on Lambeth LBCs housing benefit contractor, Capita - produced by internal auditors at the council - has been circulated to members this week, reports The South London Press (p6).

The auditors found that just 11 of the 21 recommendations of a previous internal audit, completed a year ago, had been fully implemented.

It also found that between April and September last year, just 34.4% of new and renewal benefit claims were processed within the statutory period of 14 days.

However, the auditors still concluded that the management procedures and controls were 'adequate'.

The council said it now had procedures in place to ensure that the recommendations of auditors are implemented.
