The south London borough of Lambeth yesterday began a legal action against four defendants including one of its contractors, claiming damages for fraud, reports The Financial Times (p9).

Lambeth said the action resulted from its own recent investigations into 'corrupt practices involving a contractor working with the disbanded integrated building services unit in the Directorate of Operational Services'.

Earlier this year the council was accused of spending £20.2 million unlawfully, says the paper.
