Lambeth issues Test match tout warning

Lambeth LBC is preparing to target touts trying to cash in on the vital Ashes cricket match this week

The hotly-anticipated fifth Test with Australia has been sold out for months and tickets on auction websites are selling for hundreds of pounds.

The council has said they will have a strong presence in and around the Oval from Thursday to prevent unlicensed trading.

Council patrols will be searching for touts on the streets near ground and at Vauxhall and Oval Tube stations, with £150 fines issued on the spot to culprits.

If there is a more serious case of persistent offending then individuals will also be prosecuted.

Jamie Akinola, council enforcement manager, said: “Touts have links to serious crime and can be quite dangerous individuals so the best thing is to steer well clear of them.

“If you haven’t bought a ticket through a legitimate outlet then our advice is watch the match on a big screen at one of the fantastic pubs around the ground, and save yourself the risk of ending up having your day ruined.”
