First there was New Labour. And soon there could be a 'New Lambeth', according to the South London Press (p6).
The cash-strapped authority is employing consultants to design a new logo. But the council has denied the reputed cost of£35,000 and stressed that the cost of the new image would be outweighed by the savings.
'There is research going on to see what substantial savings can be made from ensuring that Lambeth's visual identity is more co-ordinated, and to ensure the public is fully aware of what services they are receiving from the council', a spokeswoman said.
But John Rogers of UNISON told the paper: 'Given Lambeth's dire financial situation, I don't think the council should be wasting any money on new logos and images. If resources are available they should be put into jobs and services where the money is really needed'.
