Lambeth LBC is counting the cost of 'losing' a property transferred to it 10 years ago with the abolition of the Greater London Council.

The council assumed ownership of the two-bedroom property in 1986 but a council spokeswoman said it had 'slipped through the bureaucratic net' - allowing the tenants a decade of rent-free accommodation.

Lambeth is now looking to take legal action to repossess the home and claim the money it is owed.
