Liberal Democrat DTLR spokesman Adrian Sanders, commenting on callsby the Royal Town Planning Institute for a more flexible approach to development on greenbelt land, said:

'These proposals would undermine the purpose of greenbelt land, and make it

harder to limit development in the countryside.

'Before any attempts to compromise greenbelt land are made, the government

should get comprehensive land registration under way. We do not know who

owns up to 60% of land in the UK.

'Changing the regulations for greenbelt land now is putting the cart before

the horse.'
