The chief environmental health officer with Langbaurgh BC has told the council that dustcarts in the area could be run on natural gas alone, the Northern Echo reports (p6).

David Thompson advised the authority that diesel engine manufacturers were now producing dedicated natural gas engines for large vehicles that would radically reduce air pollution.

The paper says that the conversion requires modern computer controls on the engine system and the installation of a large gas cylinder in the vehicle.
