  • Comment

Ministers have unveiled 59 councils pioneering innovation and excellence that are vying to shape how services are run in the future.

The councils have been shortlisted out of an initial batch of 132 that applied under the Beacon Scheme, which is in its ninth year and run by the Improvement & Development Agency.

Overseen by the Department for Communities & Local Government, the scheme promotes innovation and excellence in councils, with ministers directly involved in setting themes and awarding beacon status.

Government departments then work with and learn from those selected.
