The Conservatives could suffer big loses in London in the local elections, according to the latest MORI anlaysis of voting intentions, reports The Times (p4).

Projections for the capital show that the Tory share has dropped eight points to 26 % down from 45 % of the vote at the general election two years ago.

Labour's share has increased to 52 % and the Liberal Democrats 20 %.

If these figures are repeated in the elections on May 5, the Tories may lose control of some outer London boroughs which they still hold. However, the paper says that local factors and levels of council tax in, for instance, Wandsworth and Westminster, could affect the outcome.
