The Planning Inspectorate today launched a new quarterly publication, the Planning Inspectorate Journal.

The journal will be of particular interest to those involved in the planning appeal process, including local planning authorities, appellants and third parties.

It aims also, in accordance with the principles of open government, to encourage more efficient and effective participation in the appeal process and build on the inspectorate's reputation for professionalism, integrity and efficiency.

The first edition of the journal includes an introduction by the chief planning inspector, messages from the secretaries of state for the environment and Wales, and articles on good practice at pre-inquiry meetings, the training of inspectors, the role of a programme officer, and news items of general interest.

Information on how to subscribe can be obtained from Alison Seward, Room 13/01, Tollgate House, Houlton Street, Bristol BS2 9DJ Tel: 0117 987 8585.
