Leeds city council has agreed to spend £12,000 on building a platform by the River Aire so bereaved Sikhs can cast relatives' ashes into the river, the Daily Telegraph reports (p11).

The paper says the platform comes after a request from the Sikhs. Councillor Neil Taggart said that the platforms can be used by any domination and Leeds is a multi cultural city and the council had to cater for everyone.
