Leeds will today unveil plans to spread wealth into inner-city areas, where deprivation is hampering development and undermining the city's image, reports The Financial Times (p6).

In its economic strategy for the next decade, Leeds Economic Partnership says it must improve the worst neighbourhoods or risk losing its position as one of the fastest-growing local economies in Britain.

About£120m in public funding is being targeted at the poorest districts. The city also aims to promote further growth in the financial and business services sector, which as produced 23,000 new jobs since 1991.
