Leicester city councillors have approved plans to launch an independent investigation into the delayed opening of the De Montfort Hall after major refurbishment, reports BBC Leicester.

The policy and resources committee last night agreed to the proposal put forward by the council's chief executive, Imtiaz Farookhi, for an inquiry into 'the lapses, failures and mistakes' which led to the two months delay in reopening.

The delay led to the cancellation, postponement or switching of concerts to other venues in the east Midlands.
