Leicestershire MPs are to be lobbied by the city council over proposed levels of minimum rail services which the new Midland Mainline franchiser will be required to provide, reports BBC Leicester.

City councillors last night condemned the proposals, claiming it would cut the number of trains running between Leicester and London by 20%.

Midland Mainline is one of the first major routes to be put out for privatisation. It operates between London St Pancras, Luton, Bedford, Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield.
