The Financial Times carries a story (p6) which claims the Department of Transport is attempting to block European Union inspired reviews of environmental impact of large road and rail schemes.

The story comes from a leaked letter from John MacGregor, transport secretary, and Tim Yeo, environment minister. Friends of the Earth say they will take High Court action against the government if Mr MacGregor succeeds in blocking the reviews.
