I would like to correct a report that appeared on Toulmin Smith's page (LGC, 14 April).

Southwark LBC had no 'mountain' of outgoing mail 'because the last invoice for the franking machine hadn't been paid', as Toulmin reports.

The bill had been paid but the mail company had not credited the money to the correct account and stopped our service without warning. This led to a maximum delay of three days in the despatch of some mail from one location.

Head of administrative services, Southwark LBC
