With reference to LGC's survey on inspection (LGC, 14 April), I believe it is vital for the next government to give local government greater autonomy by reducing the number of time-consuming inspection regimes.

Resources are already stretched and managers want to get on with delivering real services. If this could be achieved within the next six months, it could make a real difference.
