Each week the Association sends circulars to chief executives of member authorities. This checklist aims to help authorities see quickly what circulars have been issued each week. LGA Annual Conference and Exhibition - 22/25 July 1997 Details of the Association's first Annual Conference and exhibition, including delegate booking and accommodation details. CIMAH and PSR Charging

CIMAH (Control of Industrial Major Accident Hazards Regulations) 15 and PSR (Pipelines Safety Regulations) 26, enable local authorities responsible for preparing and keeping up to date off-site emergency plans to recover the costs of undertaking this work. Road Traffic Reduction Act

Information on the publication of the Road Traffic Reduction Act 1997 which received Royal Assent on 21 March. The Act was published by The Stationery Office on 3 April 1997 (Chapter 54). LGA Circular Reference 4/97 Date of Issue: 10/04/97

Don't Choke Britain 1997 - Major Conference on 19 June 1997 Information on the major LGA transport conference linked to Don't Choke Britain! 1997, to be held on Thursday 19 June. Further details, and a booking form, will be circulated shortly. The conference will be one of the principal national events of the campaign and will be of interest to transport, policy and environmental elected members and officers. Draft Protocol on the LGA and SSAs

The LGA Policy and Strategy Committee at its meeting on 27 March 1997 agreed that member authorities should be consulted on a draft protocol on standard spending assessments.Member authorities' comments have been requested. LGA Circular Reference 6/97 Date of Issue: 10/04/97


Seminar on Housing Stock Transfer - The Practical Implications

The Association, in conjunction with a training consultancy, is holding a Seminar on Monday 28 April (Regents Park Marriott Hotel, London) to bring out the facts about Stock transfer and what is involved from the viewpoints of both transferring and acquiring organisations. Housing Disrepair Litigation

The Association has asked for information on disrepair actions taken by tenants against local authorities under Section 82 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Section 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985. Authorities have been asked to complete and return a questionnaire survey by Monday 19 May. The LGA will provide a summary of the results of information obtained for member authorities and will be using the material in continuing discussions with DoE and the Lord Chancellor's Department. Housing and Council Tax Benefit: Fraud Act

Update on the Social Security Administration (Fraud) Act - which received Royal Assent on 21 March 1997 and draft regulations from the DSS which will assist local authorities in dealing with landlord fraud. The proposed changes will tighten arrangements for paying housing benefit direct to landlords, provide other fraud related provisions and enable local authorities to require any necessary information from a landlord in connection with a specific claim. LGA/MJ Wallchart

The Municipal Journal has produced an Information Wallchart on the Local Government Association. Six copies of the Wallchart have been sent to each member authority and a limited number of additional copies are available from LGA Information Services. Appointment of Advisers to the LGA

LGA Policy and Strategy Committee has endorsed proposals for the appointment of officer advisers to the Local Government Association.
