CHECKLIST 2/97

Each week the Association sends circulars to chief executives of member authorities. This checklist aims to help authorities see quickly what circulars have been issued each week. ELECTIONS

Council Elections: May 1997

The Association has reminded county councils of the request made by the ACC to provide details of council election results to the Association. The LGA has also asked for details of the unitary elections that are being held on the same day.

Providing Solutions: Local Government's Role in Britain's Future

A major one day LGA conference - held in association with Barony Consulting - has been organised for 3 June 1997 (London) to offer delegates an opportunity to consider the policies set out in the post-election Queen's Speech. The conference will be addressed by Government and Opposition Spokespersons and representatives of public, private and voluntary sector organisations. Other speakers include Vincent Hanna and Peter Kellner.

Local Plans and Unitary Development Plans: Preparation and Review

The Association (together with the Planning Officers' Society) is holding a series of regional seminars for planning officers and elected members designed to assist member authorities achieve full plan coverage and undertake monitoring and review of adopted Local Plans and UDPs. SOCIAL SERVICES

PSS Expenditure Survey 1998/99

The Association is undertaking a survey of expenditure requirements (1998/1999) for Personal Social Services and has asked social services authorities to complete the survey by 19 May 1997. The information collected will be used to inform the current round of discussions with the Department of Health on future funding requirements for personal social services.
