LGA leisure and tourism chair Chris Heinitz has written to the Arts Council to offer full support for the changes being made and expressed a real commitment to working together in the future.
Writing to Arts Council chairman Gerry Robinson, Cllr Heinitz praised the proposals for decentralisation which would make way for more beneficial partnerships between local authorities and regional arts boards.
The LGA attaches great importance to the potential impact of cultural industries on regeneration, welfare to work and the new deal and the role the arts can play is well documented.
The LGA recently published an advocacy paper for leisure and tourism entitled 'Enriching People's Lives' which fully recognised the arts as part of a holistic approach to this vitally important part of people's lives.
