The LGA expects a high level of responses from local councils to today's government consultationon the distribution of formula grant distribution.

Neil Kinghan, director of economic and environmental policy said:

'It is important that individual authorities' views on the options being

put are heard by government. The LGA had pressed government to set out

example figures for each authority, we are pleased that this has happened. I

know individual councils will want to respond to these figures themselves.

'The LGA will be examining the overall responses and setting out a more

global response in due course. Local councils urgently need two further government actions to support their efforts to provide high quality public services:

* new investment for local council services in the next spending

* progress on setting up discussions on the balance of funding between

local and central government.'
