The Local Government Association is likely to cap subscription rises for member councils at 10% for its first year.

The executive committee agreed on Tuesday to recommend a damping scheme whereby no council's subscription would increase or decrease by more than 10%.

The proposal will now be discussed by the policy and strategy committee on 5 November.

The executive also approved the communications strategy proposed by director of communications Carol Grant. This includes £20,000 to design a logo and other aspects of the LGA's corporate identity.

On Monday more than 70 councils from all parties gave their backing to setting up an LGA urban commission.
