Welfare Reform and Pensions Act 1999 (Commencement

No 4) SI 1047

Brought s39 (child benefit conditional on claimant providing national insurance number) fully into force on 15 May.

Section 54 to s56 (bereavement benefits) and related provisions in sched 8 and sched 13 took effect on 24 April for the purposes of making regulations and on

9 April for all other purposes.

Provisions in sched 2 relating to pensions and in sched 12 took effect on 25 April.

Part I of the Act (stakeholder pensions) takes effect on 1 October for certain purposes and on 8 October 2001 for its remaining provisions.

Section 20, s23, s24 and s26 (treatment of pensions on divorce), Part IV (sharing of pensions) and related provisions in sched 8, sched 12 and sched 13, come into effect on 1 December.

Food Standards Act 1999 (Commencement No 2) SI 1066

Brought the remainder of the Act into force on 1 April.

Act 1999 (Commencement No 5 and Appointment of Reconstitution Day).

SI 1094

Appoints 3 July for the reconstitution of the London Fire Civil Defence Authority

as the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority. Other provisions took effect on 1 May to nominate or appoint the first members of the authority.

Greater London Authority Act (Commencement No 6 and Preliminary Arrangements for the Metropolitan Police Authority) SI 1095

Provides for interim financial arrangements to take effect on the date the MPA assumes its functions on 3 July until they are replaced or altered.

Initial standing orders for the first meeting will be made by the clerk appointed by the secretary of state.

Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 (Commencement No 2)

SI 1034

Brought into force on 14 April s59, s60 ; Paras 59, 16, 17 and 22 of sched 4 and parts of sched 6.

Welfare Reform and Pensions Act 1999 (Commencement

No 5) SI 1116.

Provisions on 1 December: s22 (Part III Matrimonial and Family Proceedings Act 1984); s85(3) and (4) (Transitional of Provisions); s19 and sched 3; and s21 and sched 4.
