Glasgow City Council claims to have exploded myths that lapdancing is 'up-market, harmless fun'.

The council, which is currently opposing two applications for lapdance clubs in the city, is calling

for them to be reclassified as sex shops so they can be more easily controlled.

A London Metropolitan University report, Profitable exploits: lapdancing in the UK, commissioned by the council, found that in some clubs customers believed sexual services could be available, dancers were exploited financially and the clubs made women living nearby feel less safe.
